Environmentally friendly viticultural practices

Marie-Hélène Yung-Théron wishes to preserve the natural beauty of the places and has opted for viticultural practices that respect the environment.

Since 2017, Château de Portets has been committed to an Environmental Management System (EMS) led by Interprofessional Council of Bordeaux Wines (CIVB). In 2024, the property obtains the High Environmental Value Certification (HVE) level 4.

This translates into an responsible and sustainable management of the castle's activities in respect of its employees, its neighbors and the local ecosystem.

In concrete terms, this represents:

Monitoring of energy consumption (electricity, water, etc.)

Sorting waste

Agricultural practices based, in particular, on the principles of agroecology

A wastewater treatment system

This environmental policy is voluntary, It is the extension of all the initiatives taken at the Château de Portets as well as The return to working the soil, the mulching of the vineyards or also the use of biocontrol products (natural substances of animal, vegetable or mineral origin that act as a stimulant of the plant's natural defenses).

Soil conservation and optimal quality of our grapes

Composition of our Graves Rouge vineyard

  • A single holding of 20 hectares.
  • 55% Merlot produces round, very fruity wines (flavors and aromas of red fruits), with some spicy notes. This variety adds softness to the wine.
  • 45% Cabernet Sauvignon, which brings with it a high tannin level, thus enabling the production of a wine with a beautiful structure that evolves into greater complexity and intensity over the years.

Composition of our Graves Blanc vineyard

  • 60% Sémillon brings density, fat and softness to the wine, with notes of candied fruit and honey.
  • 30% Sauvignon wines that deliver very characteristic aromas, greatly influenced by the nature of the soil. The wines are fine and balanced.
  • Muscadelle 10%, which brings softness and sweetness to the blends. It produces sweet and round wines with marked floral aromas.
